Why do budget and constraint videos beat gear reviews?
Because they answer a question the viewer has about themselves rather than about a product. A cheap camera producing a strong result tells them their equipment is not the problem, which is both a relief and a challenge. Gear reviews bring steady traffic but rarely produce that reaction.
Does a photography channel need a large portfolio?
It needs credible work on screen, which is not the same thing. The leaderboard rewards videos where the images support the claim being made, and a small body of strong work does that. What fails is teaching a technique while showing examples that do not demonstrate it.
