Because production quality is invisible in a thumbnail and a premise is not. A stranger decides from a promise, and an elaborate video often buries its promise behind a concept that needs explaining. The leaderboard rewards whichever video was easiest to understand at a glance, which is frequently the cheapest one.
Do comedy outliers mean anything, or is it all luck?
Single rows are noisy; patterns are not. Look for a channel with several qualifying videos and read what they share — a recurring character, a format, a target. Repeated performance against your own median is far harder to reach by accident than one video that happened to get carried by a feed.
