Channel name vs. handle
Your channel name is the display name people see on your videos and channel page. Your handle is the unique @name that also becomes your channel URL, like youtube.com/@yourhandle. YouTube treats them as separate things, and each channel has exactly one handle.
The handle has to be unique, so check it before you fall for a name. A great name with a clumsy handle is harder to say out loud and harder to find.
YouTube handle rules
According to YouTube's handle guidelines, a handle:
- Is 3 to 30 characters long, with different limits for some scripts, such as 1 to 10 for Han and Hangul
- Uses letters or numbers, and may include underscores, hyphens, periods and Latin middle dots, but not at the start or end
- Isn't case-sensitive
- Doesn't look like a URL or a phone number
- Isn't already in use, and follows YouTube's Community Guidelines
How the name ideas are built
The generator uses word banks, not AI. It combines your topic with fixed prefixes and suffixes for each style: Lab, HQ, Mode, Forge and Spark for punchy names; Studio, Academy, Insider and Workshop for descriptive ones; Coach, Professor and similar personas for personal brands. The same topic always gives the same list.
Suggested handles are the name with spaces and punctuation removed. When one comes out longer than 30 characters, the tool flags it. Shorten it, or add a period or underscore between words if the plain version is taken. Some personal-brand ideas use a placeholder persona, such as 'With Sam', which you'd swap for your own name.
